Are You An IPhone Addict?

IPhoning All the Time

Whether you are using IPhone or any smartphone, let me ask again: are you addicted to your smartphone?  The last few days I felt my eyes strained as if I worked long hours in front of a computer especially looking at some graphics. Well, I know the reason: it’s my overuse of IPhone.  After deciding to use my Twitter account to get more outlet to this blog, I got hooked on checking this account outside of work or during breaks.  Add to that, while walking on the street.  And also while at the bathroom or sometimes finding an excuse to go to the bathroom to be able to view my messages. Well getting hooked on the Twitter via IPhone has a domino effect.  Surely I started checking the internet and all other things on my IPhone which I used to do in our home laptop.  Yeah, that’s access anytime, anywhere.  I even get so frustrated I can’t get internet access when in the underground train.

A few weeks ago, I convinced my wife to avoid using the IPhone while with our daughter Yanna as she herself gets into the “IPhone ADD (Attention Deficit Deficiency) mode”. Yanna could not be disturbed or stopped if she’s watching cartoons on Youtube in the IPhone. Because of this, I’ve stopped using the phone in front of her but sneaks when she’s out of sight ! Hahaha.

This is a wake-up call before a real addiction creeps in! That’s why the last two days I promised myself I’m not getting into Twitter and Facebook especially in the IPhone more than 15 minutes.  Well, it worked to reduce the total number of hours I used these accounts- at least even if not limited to 15 minutes.

A recent Stanford University survey showed some interesting facts: 10% admitted they were fully addicted to their Iphone and 75% slept with their IPhone beside them. I am one of the latter. There was also a recent case in Taiwan where psychiatrists diagnosed an IPhone Addicton Disorder  (IAD). The adolescent patient could not be stopped using his IPhone 24 hours a day!

Anything excessive is not good.  It affects relationships, interrupts our work and destroys our sanity.  In the past, the song “Used To Be”  we heard Stevie Wonder sing “…we break our minds with television…”  Now on top of TV there are also gadgets sharing the responsibility.  We can’t take this concern lightly. Watch out. Get out in the sun and leave your IPhone behind more often.

Well, after all, I need my IPhone camera handy in unplanned trips 🙂

“Anything excessive is bad”, as the old adage goes. IPhone in itself is an advantage to get the information you need when you need it. However, unless it is urgent or it is worth capturing a moment, then it is not worth any Iphone app time (Unless you’re using it as a phone!). Limiting your iPhone time is a good start. Looking at your accounts at a particular time instead of everytime you see an update would put you more in control instead of the device controlling you. If you see that there are a lot of things you are neglecting because of that one more “iPhone app high”, hey, it is probably time to switch to a phone for just what its meant to be – a phone.

I don’t have an iPhone and I’m not planning to have one 🙂 I am not into social networking or even getting UP-to date in things. So I don’t see the need of it. However, I’m planning to buy Kindle or Nook soon.

Those Kindle stuff is good as they are same as reading a book. Good for you 😉

Each book is only about 500-1mb. ha ha
